"Miss Harley"

At the beginning of the summer I got a job at Sunburst Daycare as a daycare teacher. I intended to work there for a few weeks until I found a ‘better’ job. The first few weeks were absolutely miserable. I had no idea what I was doing, and dealing with so many kids at one time was so hard. I complained about the pay, about the hours, about the job in general.

Yesterday was my last day as “Miss Harley”, and as I walked out the doors, I was crying because I didn’t want to leave! What changed my mind about being a daycare teacher? Maybe it was the fact that I felt deep within myself that I was MEANT to be there this past summer. Maybe it was the faces of the children, each one so precious, with light radiating from their whole being. Once I saw past the difficulties the children brought, I realized how precious each child was. I couldn’t get enough of them. I wanted so badly to make a difference in each of their lives. Maybe I changed my mind about the daycare because I realized that these children need a strong person in their lives, to teach them, and more importantly to love them.

I learned more about life in the past few months than I have ever learned. Children. They are a huge blessing to us as adults. We must watch them, and learn from them; Their innocence, the kindness, their ability to see things in new perspectives every day. They are so ready to learn, we just have to teach them in the right way. (But they are really the teachers…)

Some of the children are facing terrible battles, battles no child should ever have to deal with. Their strength is AMAZING.

I often found myself feeling guilty for how lucky and blessed I have been in my life. I want to give back to those who are not so fortunate, I want to take their sorrows away, and help them find happiness.

Working with the children all summer was the greatest blessing I could have ever asked for, I would never trade a single day of my time.

Also, Children are hilarious. They made me smile and laugh everyday. To prove it, I’ll share some funny experiences and things I have heard the children say;

-One boy told me this story: Miss Harley! This is a trueeee story, I promise. My friend went into a house full of dead people. He looked under the table and a ghost pulled him into a hole. When he came back out, he was a werewolf. BUT, that’s not all Miss Harley. His grandma and grandpa came and looked for him and they got turned into tornadoes. His brother and sister came, and they got turned into worms in the ground, and THEN his mom and dad came and they got shipped to London to become slaves. That is really true Miss Harley.

-An upset little girl: Miss Harley!!! She will not share being the fairy princess in the game. She has been it for a long time and she needs to let me be it now!

-A conversation between two little girls doing a coloring page:

1: No I don’t want you to color that right there!

2: Well that is the sacrifice you have to make if you want our paper to have the diamond sparkles on it!

1: Okay fine.

2: See, now we can have those diamonds and our paper will be better.

-I asked the class what they did over the weekend:

One boy: Well I walked past this house and a clown head popped out of it like this *does a little jump*, and he had a big knife and he was not happy.

-I overheard this conversation at lunch:

Boy 1: Last year this girl came to daycare and she kissed me on the hand, the cheek, AND on the lips.

Boy 2: Really?!

Boy 1: Yeah, and you want to know what I said?! I said….that’s disgusting.

-One kid came to a sliding stop on his tricycle right in front of me, tipped his ball cap, and with a wink said “Hello there Miss Harley.” And rode off again.

-One boy at lunch: Yeah I’ve got two girlfriends. They don’t know about each other, and I have to keep it that way.

There are so many!! I could go on and on. Those are just a few funny things that happened within the last week….So you can imagine how great my summer has been! I’ll miss those kids J

End of Freshmen Year and SUMMER!

Alot has happened since the last time I updated the blog! So I'll try to catch you up...

  • TRACK!
Track ended on a great note! Our team went to Houston, Texas for the Great West Conference Championships. I qualified for Junior Nationals in the Steeplechase with a PR of 11:06 minutes, and I placed 3rd!!
Both our girls and boys teams came home with a VICTORY! I love my team, and the AMAZING friends I have met.
I also ended the season with a personal best in the 1500: 4:49. That is a 5:08 mile.

While in Houston we got to do baptisms in the Houston, Texas temple.

  • END OF FRESHMEN YEAR!
I officially finished my freshmen year of college, and it's crazy how fast it flew by.
If there is one thing I have learned since graduating high school it is this:
People will walk in and out of your life, and everyone is on their own journey. Change is inevitable, and so we must make the memories while we can, cherish them, and look to the future where more will be made,
I have made some of the greatest friends since coming to college. Most of them have left to continue on their journey in life.
Some have gone, or are leaving, on missions to serve the Lord. Others have moved to other schools, moved home, gotten engaged, etc. I often feel sad that I have to watch these wonderful friends leave, but I am so thankful for the friendships and memories I have made with them! And I am excited for them to continue on their path in life.

Don't cry because it's over, but smile and be thankful that it happened. Have hope for the future, and be a good friend to all.
Friends may walk in and out of your life, but FAMILY will always be there for you.
Heavenly Father and Jesus will always be there for you.
You are never alone!

One of the hardest parts of leaving college was leaving my amazing roommates. I was so BLESSED to have the roommates I did! I grew so close to each one, and I will NEVER forget the times we spent in apt. K 1107, nor will our friendship stop over the years.
To celebrate our last night together, we all went skinny dipping in the "lovely" (not) Utah Lake. Hahaha it was a pretty funny night.
I love my sisters and best friends! Here is what is in store for them:
Morgan Brewster: She will be in Orem next year as she continues to work and be the amazing young lady that she is.
Morgan Merkley: She is getting ready to turn in her papers to serve a MISSION!
Mckayla Thacker: She is leaving in August to serve in Paraguay
Kelsey Carlson: She is leaving in TWO DAYS to serve in Argentina
Emily Triboletti: She moved back to New Jersey, but don't worry, we send each other some pretty awesome snap chats:) haha.

And then there is me!

  • Me
I moved home for the summer, and the first few weeks were really hard. Adjusting to living with parents and having pretty much no friends to hang out with was hard.
I got a job as a daycare teacher, and I have been running lots!

After about a month of being home, I began to realize why the Lord wanted me here this summer.
I have learned alot about myself! I haven't had the distraction of friends constantly in my life these past few months, and I have learned more about who I really am.
I have been able to spend alot of time with my family, and I have loved it!
I feel that, in some small way, I am helping the lives of some of the children at the daycare...and they have taught me more than they'll ever ever know.

I am excited to go back to college to begin my sophomore year, but in the meantime, I am competely content with my life here in Vernal. (Something I would have NEVER said just a few short months ago...)

  • Summer fun :)

Grandma and I visiting Papa's grave on Memorial Day.

Spent a fun weekend in Hurricane with my good friends!

Summer River Trip. Such a great tradition :) My favorite vacation EVER!

Sleeping all night under stars.. (Bucketlist...check!)

Paddle boarding!

I move back to Orem August 14th to begin another year of adventure
 :)

PS, I updated my bucketlist, so go and check it out! :)

There once was a girl named Harley

Once upon a time there was a girl named Harley who was slightly hyper and a little less organized than she would have liked to be. Harley didn't know what she wanted in life.....and so she randomly ran around (quite literally...) and tried to figure it all out. After some hard work, she journeyed to the land of Orem Utah, her first time going at life alone. She met some amazing people, found out she was stronger than she once thought, and started to get a glimpse at who she really is deep down inside....

It's been a while, So here's the latest...

1. run run run run...
As many of you know, I love batman. I also love to run. This picture is self explanatory...

Gooooood ol plantar facia problems....

Indoor Conference in Houston!

Indoor conference was great! not only did I PR in the Mile (5:13...) I also found a magnificent acorn. Bucketlist....

First Outdoor meet in San Diego what uppppp..

Outdoor season is the best season in all the year!! We just had a meet at home last weekend, and my family and friends got to come watch! It was great!! :) I ran the 1500m in 4:55.

Track can be hard sometimes...

2. The semester is almost over, and that means I have to leave my beautiful roommates :( boooo. These girls are the greatest, and I love them more than they will probably ever know. They are the sisters I never had. Kelsey got her mission call to Argentina, and McKayla got her's to Paraguay!

3. SUMMER!
As of now I have no idea what I'm doing this summer. Stay in orem, go home, go to provo, move to slc with a friend, work in Idaho. The options go on, but my decision making is weak!!! Blahhalajdlfaj. One day I'll figure it out.

4. College adventures at their finest....
mid night hike to the Y!

we made sushi! yuckkkk

Had a fun time dating this kid!

Now my life be like...

I spend my spare time building fortresses like this while my roommates are away....

Writing lots of missionaries/my best friends..... :)

And although this semester has given me some rough times, I'm happy. :)

This semester has had it's ups and downs, heart breaks, good times, bad times, friends, learning, running, blah blah blah. It's been alot! But I can honestly say I've loved every second of it...

Semester Numero Dos!

I have officially completed my first semester of college, and let me tell you my friends, 'twas a wonderful experience filled with ups and downs.

This is my good friend, roommate, and cross country buddy Kelsey and I celebrating after we took our last final.
This included the burning of flash cards, the flicking of flash cards as if we were 'makin it rain' with money, and hugging.
Take that you wretched flash card finals! I do not like finals. They are hard, and they hurt my head kind of.

Christmas break! Ooooh blessed Christmas break. It was absolutely wonderful. Why you may ask? Well I shall tell you!

My dad and I took an adventure to the land of Maui. It was great, and my dad is a rather awesome man. I love him :)

I miss you Maui, and your nice warm eighty degree weather. Utah has no such weather to offer me in January. Sigh :(

Christmas break was also great because I got to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas with my favorite kids. Yes that would be the Eaton Family. I love them to the moon and back. It was fun being Santa with my sister Zinna.

Other things from winter break include epic sledding adventures, a grand cabin adventure with my good friends Carl, Austin, and Shelbie, a memorable New Year's Eve, and the start of a BRAND NEW YEAR!

Guess what!? It's the greatest time of the year (besides christmas that is) It's TRACK SEASON!
Track season is the best, and sometimes I worry that people really just don't understand how great track is. :)

Our first Indoor Meet was at Boise State.

I raced the 3K. My goal time was 11:40, but I eneded up getting a 10:50 and placing 4th! It was a great race for me. I love the 3K!

The 3K is 200meters less than two miles. It was my first time racing this distance, so I was a little bit nervous, but my coach helped me set some paces. It really was a great race! I felt good about it. I want to get around 10:25ish, or under. That's my next goal. Once outdoor starts I will get to do the Steeplechase. I am very excited.

Overall life is good! I mean it really is! I feel so blessed each day. I know the Lord's hand is in my life, and it makes me happy. The church is true!
